University of Television and Film Munich

The Drehbuchwerkstatt, a screenplay workshop of the University of Television and Film Munich provides annual mentoring for authors in the development of their screenplay.

Participants train in dramaturgy, film writing, film production and media law. The focus is on developing their own screenplay to the point where it is ready to be shot. For this purpose, the Drehbuchwerkstatt provides a professional discussion partner; each participant has his or her own personal supervisor. Apart from this intimate working relationship, all authors and supervisors meet at certain intervals to discuss the development status of their books in colloquia.

Writers' Room

Supported by the Schwarz Foundation, the Drehbuchwerkstatt expanded its training programme in 2017 by setting up a Writers' Room. The focus is on the development of a series. Four participants are given the opportunity to develop a series together with a professional head writer. This special way of working requires from the writers not only creativity but also a high degree of teamwork and flexibility in order to work together on a horizontally narrated story from the basic idea to the finished scripts. The head writer of the current Writers' Room is Philip Schneider. Previous head writers were Johannes Betz (e.g. "Das Boot", "Die Spiegel-Affäre"), Stephan Knösel (e.g. "Dahoam is Dahoam") and Sabine Bachthaler (e.g. "Sturm der Liebe").
