Open Call: Architectural Scholarship for the Academic Year 2026–2027

The Schwarz Foundation announces one (1) annual Architecture scholarship for the academic year 2026–2027. Emphasis is placed on the fields of Architectural Design, Urban Design, Environmental Design, History of Architecture, Urban History, Architectural Theory, and the Restoration of Historic and Modern Monuments and Ensembles.
The scholarship is open to holders of Greek citizenship and/or nationality born in or after 1991.
The scholarship concerns PhD candidates or postdoctoral researchers at universities in Greece or abroad.
The scholarship is granted for one year (12 months) and amounts to €10,800.
The scholarship begins on 1/9/2026 or 1/10/2026.
Eligible doctoral fellows are those already conducting doctoral research or having received final acceptance to begin it by 30/06/2026. Eligible postdoctoral fellows are those already conducting their research or having received final acceptance to begin it by 30/06/2026. Applicants already receiving scholarships from another public or private institution are not eligible.

Required documents:
• One photograph.
• Copy of identity card or passport.
• Curriculum Vitae (maximum 2 pages) in Greek.
• Certificate proving knowledge of at least one foreign language, and specifically the language of the country where the doctoral or postdoctoral research may be conducted. This requirement does not apply to holders of undergraduate or postgraduate degrees in that language.
• Certificate of enrollment for those already conducting doctoral or postdoctoral research, or letter of acceptance from the university where the research will be carried out.
• Doctoral candidates must submit a research proposal of up to 2,000 words describing the subject, objectives, originality, and methodology of the annual research supported by the scholarship. The relationship between the annual research and the doctoral dissertation must also be described, along with a timeline for completion of the dissertation.
• Postdoctoral candidates must submit a research proposal of up to 2,000 words describing the subject, objectives, originality, and methodology of the research. The proposal must also explain how the postdoctoral research relates to the candidate’s previous research activity and include a timeline for completion.
• Two (2) sample publications (printed or electronic), in the form of articles or books, if available.
• Two short letters of recommendation, one of which must be signed by the doctoral or postdoctoral supervisor.
• Certificate of military status. Male applicants must have completed military service or possess legal deferment or exemption.
A personal interview may also be conducted if necessary.
The scholarship amount is paid quarterly in advance to a personal bank account. The fellow must submit a written progress report to the Foundation every three months.
Upon completion of the scholarship, the fellow must submit a scientific report of 3,000 words to the Foundation regarding the methodology and conclusions of the research, as well as its connection to their broader research activity.
