Samos YoungArtists Festival


Born in Athens, Greece; lives and works in Athens, Greece, and Cáceres, Spain.

Yorgos Karailias's photographic practice investigates the role of social documentary photography as a motivational tool of social awareness, and questioning the general disbelief about the veracity of the image.
His work has been shown at international festivals and exhibitions, including: Athens Photo Festival, Benaki Museum, Athens (2018); Whitelight Showcase, Shed, London (2017); MedPhoto Festival, Museum of Contemporary Art of Rethymnon, Crete (2016); Visions Festival, La Coruña (2016); Paris Photo, Paris (2015); Fotografia Festival Internazionale di Roma, MACRO – Museum of Contemporary Art, Rome, (2015).
His first photobook, EstrangeR, was published by Kehrer Verlag, Heidelberg, in 2015. In 2010, he was awarded the Second Cedefop Photomuseum Award in Thessaloniki Photobienale.
Karailias has been involved in various cultural and educational projects as organiser, instructor, and curator, and has collaborated with various cultural entities and institutions, including Athens and Cáceres Schools of Fine Arts, MedPhoto Festival, and Cáceres 2016 committee for the city´s application for nomination as the European Capital of Culture 2016.
