Samos YoungArtists Festival

Born in Athens, Greece, where he lives and works.

Spiros Kokkonis is a multidisciplinary artist whose work is grounded in present-day reality and our surrounding world. The artist notes: 'Surrounded by a specific environment and political, social, and cultural conditions, Kokkonis creates images influenced by and connected to it. While his environment is the subject and the reason of his practice, it is also seen as an inexhaustible source of material: From steel and concrete to visual appropriation, a range of ready-mades (archives, spaces, images, sounds and objects) are being mixed, recast, and translated into sculptures, installations, and videos that aim to make a personal statement – a personal appraisal of the artist's environment, oscillating between feelings of inclusion and hope to enmity and despair.'

Recent exhibitions: Whitelight Showcase, SHED, London (2017); On Walls Group Show, Grace, Athens (2016); Hello Future! Talents Archive, Onassis Cultural Centre, Athens (2015)
