Matvey Demin was born in 1993 in Osinniki, Russia. He had his first flute lessons at the age of nine under the guidance of his grandmother Galina Bulgakova. He subsequently studied in Novosibirsk with Nadezhda Furenkova until he started his studies in Germany (Hanover and Munich) with Professor Andrea Lieberknecht in 2009.
Matvey is a prizewinner of numerous international competitions such as the ARD Music Competition in Munich (2010 Bärenreiter Prize), the Beijing Music Competition (2012), the Kuhlau Flute Competition (First Prize) and the International UNISA Flute and Clarinet Competition 2014 in Pretoria, South Africa (First Prize and 3 Special Prizes).
Matvey was a solo flutist in the Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester and the Schleswig-Holstein Festival Orchestra. He has been a co-principal solo flutist in the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich since September 2014, where he played with conductors like Bernard Haitink, Herbert Blomstedt, Paavo Järvi, Lionel Bringuier, Franz Welser-Möst, Charles Dutoit and many others.
