The 2013 Samos Young Artists Festival is directed by Daniel Nodel, who is also responsible for its programmatic content.
Daniel Nodel was born in 1968 in Minsk. He received his first violin instruction in his home city at a special school for musically talented children. After immigrating to Germany in 1980, he continued his instruction with Irina Goldstern. This was followed by studies in Hanover with Jens Ellermann, with his father Roman Nodel and with Josef Gingold in Bloomington, USA. Daniel Nodel won the "Jugend musiziert" contest on several occasions, the "Rodolfo Lipizer" competition in Gorizia, Italy and won a scholarship from the Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes as well as from the Deutschen Akademischen Austauschdienstes (DAAD). He has participated in master classes by such artists as Dorothy DeLay, Ruggiero Ricci, Felix Andrievsky and Walter Trampler (Viola).
Daniel Nodel was a member of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra from 1993 to 1998. He subsequently joined the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, where he is part of the first violin section.
