The artist

Aleksandra Domanović

Aleksandra Domanović, born in 1981 in Novi Sad in former Yugoslavia, belongs to the generation of Digital Natives in which the internet serves as a working platform. Her own works grapple with the digital world of images and lead to new connective narratives. She deals with images and information to bring about changes in meaning or agenda which subsequently traverse different contexts and historical facts. Her works create curious classification systems and chains of association which include the artist’s personal history as well as geopolitical conflicts or the emergence of the internet. The often underrepresented role of women in the area of technological innovations is also addressed.

Aleksandra Domanović initially studied architecture at the University of Ljubljana before moving to the University of Applied Arts in Vienna. In the meantime, she lives and works in Berlin and was recently awarded the prestigious German Ars Viva prize 2014/15.

Aleksandra Domanović’s works have been exhibited internationally, including solo and group shows at Kunstverein Hildesheim, the Gallery of Modern Art Glasgow; Art Basel Miami Beach, Frieze New York, Künstlerhaus Bethanien Berlin, Kunsthalle Basel, P74 Ljubljana, Passerelle Centre d’art contemporain, Brest; SPACE London, Shanghai Biennale, Kunsthalle Hamburg, New Museum, New York; Kunsthalle Vienna, Kunsthalle Düsseldorf and Western Front, Vancouver, just to name a few.
