The cellist Wassily Gerassimez, son of a family of musicians, was born in Essen (Germany) in 1991 and began playing the cello at the age of five. Since 2007 he has been a student of Prof. Peter Bruns in Leipzig.
He was awarded the 1st Prize in the International Cello Competition in Liezen (Austria) in 2002 and the 1st Prize in the „International “Dotzauer Competion” in Dresden (Germany) in 2005. In 2006 he was awarded the Aalto Stage Award in his home town Essen (Germany). At the Federal Competition “Jugend
Musiziert“ he won several times 2004 and 2010 the 1st Prize with maximum points and special awards.
Together with his brother Nicolai he won 2012 the 1st Prize in the German National Music Competition in the category cello duo.
As a soloist he played with the State Philharmonic of Rheinland-Pfalz at the “Schwetzingen Festival” the Neubrandenburg Philharmonic and the Konzerthausorchester Berlin.
He performed at the Music Festival „The Next Generation III“, at the “Schleswig Holstein Musikfestival”, the “Music Festival of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern” (Germany) and the “Zermatt Festival” (Switzerland). Furthermore he has made several radio recordings for the WDR, SWR, NDR and BR.
Wassily Gerassimez is a scholarship holder of the German Foundation Musical Life.
As a laureate of the Competition of the German Foundation Musical Life Wassily Gerassimez plays a cello by Georges Chanot (Paris, about 1840).
