Fiona Monbet

*1989 in Frankreich

Fiona Monbet, Franco-Irish violinist, was born in Paris in 1989 and studied with Alexis Galpérine at the CNSMDP, Paris.
Her duo with pianist Romain Louveau won the Piano Chamber Music Award at the ISA Competition (International Summer Academy) held at the Vienna Conservatory (Universität für Musik und Dartellende Kunst). Both were invited as residential artists at the Villecroze Music Academy in September 2014, taking part also in the Masterclasses given by the pianist and conductor Ralf Gothoni.
Whilst pursuing her classical musical studies, Fiona has been leading a promising career over the past few years as a jazz violinist. Her teacher Didier Lockwood has invited her to play on many stages including Jazz at Marciac, the Theatre du Chatelet and Theatre des Champs- Elysées. She recorded with him on his hommage album dedicated to Stéphane Grapelli, 'For Stéphane'.
She has worked with Marcel Azzola, Philip Catherine, Biréli Lagrène as well as Christian Escoudé (with whom she recorded on his CDs 'Catalogne' et 'Au bois de mon cœur'). She has also worked as soloist in different productions in France and abroad with Vladimir Cosma conducting the Orchestre National d'Ile de France, the Orchestre National de Belgique and the Orchestre Philharmonique de Bucharest.
In 2011, Fiona was awarded a sponsorship on the Jeunes Talents du Fonds d'Action (SACEM) (FAS) Programme with the aim of developing her various artistic projects, including the recording of her first CD, 'O'CEOL', released in February under the Harmonia Mundi label.
She has worked on the music for Tony Gatliff's films (including 'Indignados' and 'Geronimo') and had an acting role in film director Otar Iosseliani's film 'Chant d'Hiver'.
