The Schwarz Foundation is pleased to announce that A World Not Ours, curated by Katerina Gregos, traveled to the Kunsthalle Mulhouse in the summer of 2017 following its highly successful stint at Art Space Pythagorion in summer 2016.
In its first iteration the exhibition probed the refugee crisis in Europe and the complex issues underlying it; from the economic and the political, to the humanitarian and representational. The exhibition brought together artists and activists whose work is grounded in long-term research, transcends standardised media images of the crisis, looking into the before and after the dramatic moment of flight.
This second chapter of the exhibition, which will also include additional artists, will explore questions of representation and 'ownership' of refugee images, how European citizens experience migration and the refugee crisis, what happens in the lives of the refugees once they've reached the 'promised land', and what forms of community building are harnessed in order to help them cope with their new realities.
The exhibition will open on the 31st May and run until the 20th August 2017. It will be on view during Art Basel, and will be part of the Art Basel institutional VIP parcours.
